Winnipeg, MB – The top three finalists in Manitoba’s Best Turkey Burger Recipe Challenge will face off on Thursday, September 1st at The Forks Market, with the grand-prize winner decided by the public’s taste buds.
“Manitoba Turkey Producers and Granny’s Poultry were proud to sponsor this first annual summer contest, and we were very pleased with the response. It was difficult to choose three finalists from so many great barbecued burger recipes,” says Krista Pratt, Marketing and Communications Coordinator for Manitoba Turkey Producers. “Now we are asking Manitobans to come out and help us choose the best of the best.”
Burger lovers are invited to cheer on their favourites at the cook-off, scheduled to start at approximately 5:30 pm on Thursday under the canopy between The Forks Market and Johnston Terminal.
The first 100 spectators will be invited to participate in the tasting and cast their vote on which recipe is deserving of the grand prize: a deluxe, four-burner barbecue and seven-piece outdoor patio set courtesy of Rona, a $200 Granny’s Poultry shopping spree, and a selection of Bothwell Cheese.
In addition to the public’s top choice, the burgers, each prepared using Manitoba-grown, fresh ground turkey and Bothwell Cheese, will be judged by Pratt and Jason Wortzman, Director, Marketing and Product Development at Granny’s Poultry, an internationally trained chef, vice-president of the Manitoba Food Processors Association and a member of the Canadian Culinary Federation.
“We were very encouraged by the creativity and high quality of recipes submitted by all of this year’s contestants, which just goes to show that Manitoba’s home chefs are beginning to realize that ground turkey meat is as versatile in the kitchen as it is lean, nutritious and tasty,” Wortzman says.
“We will be looking forward to seeing our top three finalists in action at the grill, the enthusiastic response of the crowd and, of course, getting to taste some fantastic turkey burgers.”
