More than a food producer, Granny’s is also at the table participating in discussions about the future of the food industry and how we can help meet the nutritional needs of consumers here at home and around the world.
Due to the growing awareness of the relationship between diet and health, it is expected that the foods we eat will soon do much more than satisfy our hunger. These “functional” foods go far beyond basic nutrition by providing health-promoting or disease-prevention benefits. By incorporating bioactive ingredients such as omega-3 fatty acids from flax oil to support good cardiovascular health or probiotics to aid in digestion, functional foods will be designed to nourish our bodies with nutrients we may be lacking.
Granny’s is working with forward-thinking groups such as the Richardson Centre for Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals at the University of Manitoba to create innovative, nutritionally-enhanced food products that will have greater value on your plate.
