Our Assurance of Quality: Hatchery

Hatchery Accreditation

Granny’s has been issued a Certificate of Hatchery Accreditation from the federal Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) for successfully completing a quality assurance program in its hatchery operations.

Among the conditions which Granny’s Hatchery has successfully met and will be monitored to consistently meet and exceed are:

  • The hatchery operator must keep up to date records for every program included in the form entitled “Hatchery Accreditation Application.”

  • The hatchery operator must maintain the hatchery premises and the equipment in good microbial sanitary condition. A minimum rating of 80% (AA) must be obtained for each microbial sanitary assessment conducted by designated employees or by a specialized firm.
  • The hatchery operator must ensure that at least one microbial sanitary assessment of the hatchery is conducted for every six or fewer consecutive months of operation.
  • Unless otherwise required by an inspector, the hatchery operator must take individual fluff samples from each hatchery in use every six weeks using the method described in the form entitled “Hatchery Accreditation Application” and must submit the samples to an approved laboratory.
