Omega-3

Eating Well with Canada’s Food Guide encourages Canadians to choose foods rich in omega-3 fats as part of a balanced diet. There are three types of omega-3 fat important to health:

  • ALA:  essential for healthy cells, current science demonstrates a beneficial affect on heart health
  • DHA  and EPA: help to contribute to heart health by reducing triglyceride levels and thereby, reducing the risk of heart disease
