PAUL BORN & Family
Kleefield, Manitoba

Paul Born is passionate about poultry farming. In fact, over the past 25 years, he has developed an ability to intuitively understand his chickens’ needs and moods simply by the sound of their clucking!

Paul and his wife Dorothy, along with their two sons and one of their two daughters (the other is a veterinarian), work together on the Borns’ poultry farming operation located 40 minutes from Winnipeg. The birds they raise are free-run and enjoy an excellent quality of life starting from the day the chicks arrive to the time they are healthy, full-grown broiler chickens.

The reason Paul is able to assure that his chickens meet Granny’s high standard is because he is 100 per cent committed to providing a humane and quality environment for his flocks. His barn is equipped with the latest technology to monitor power, ventilation, temperature as well as feed and water supply all year round. Paul has even installed a microphone allowing him to dial in from his home phone and listen to what is happening inside the barn day or night. He can tell if his chickens are stressed or happy just from what he hears on the other end of the line!

Now in his fifth year as a member of Granny’s Poultry Cooperative, Paul enjoys the opportunity to interact and share best farming practices with other poultry farmers, co-op members and Granny’s field and office staff. He is especially proud to be an integral part of the process of delivering fresh, high-quality chicken to your dinner table.
